Feral Tabby Cat

We Are Scranton Animal Shelter Association, INC.

We work toward a world where every cat is valued and protected.

Who We Are

Scranton Animal Shelter Organization (SASA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the outdoor cat population through TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release). Our vision is to end the suffering of both feral cats and cats who have been abandoned and are homeless in our area by spaying and neutering, providing medical care and helping to find every adoptable cat a loving, permanent home.

Trap-Neuter-Return is a humane approach to addressing community cat populations. TNR is successfully practiced in hundreds of communities and in every landscape and setting. It is exactly what it sounds like: Cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian to be neutered and vaccinated. After recovery, the cats are returned to their home-their colony outdoors. Kittens and cats who are friendly and socialized to people may be adopted into homes.

TNR improves the lives of cats, addresses community concerns, reduces complaints about cats, and stops the breeding cycle. TNR improves the co-existence between outdoor cats and humans in our shared environment. This is why so many cities are adopting it. Once TNR is in place, the cats will no longer reproduce. The population will stabilize and eventually decline.

Help Us Make a Difference

Scranton Animal Shelter Association, INC. focuses on bringing a positive change the way the public views cat colonies.

Community cat populations generally consist of a mixture of feral cats, semi-socialized cats and lost and abandoned pets. By reducing the population of outdoor cats, we also reduce the number of cats euthanized by animal shelters.
